BYD continues to attract attention with its growth strategy in recent years. The total number of BYD employees exceeds 900 thousand, with more than 110 thousand of them working in the research and development (R&D) department. This figure makes BYD the world’s largest automobile manufacturer in terms of the number of employees.
BYD employee number exceeds 900 thousand
BYD, which employed approximately 200 thousand new employees last year, achieved a significant part of this growth with 50 thousand university graduates it hired in the last two years. The company stated that it made R&D investments in areas such as battery technology, smart driving systems and automobile technologies.
BYD’s strategy also reflects positively on its sales figures. In the second quarter, the company surpassed Honda and Nissan to become the seventh best-selling automaker worldwide. It also broke consecutive records in vehicle sales in China.
For comparison, Volkswagen has nearly 700,000 employees worldwide. Toyota Motor is right behind it with 400,000 employees. BYD, on the other hand, has become one of the largest companies of all time with 200 thousand employees in one year.
BYD announced that it sold 373,82 hybrid and electric cars in August alone. Accordingly, it surpassed the previous record set in July. Plug-in hybrid vehicle sales exceeded 222,000 units in August, marking the sixth consecutive record for the company.
The company also has ambitious targets in Europe. BYD Europe CEO Michael Shu announced earlier this year, before the opening of the factory in Hungary, that they were targeting 5 percent of the European electric vehicle market.
